Agnes Ngetich has been rewarded for her scintillating form this year after becoming the first Kenyan to sign up for the lucrative Grand Slam Track which has a prize money of Ksh13m for its winners.
Agnes Ngetich has become the first Kenyan athlete to sign up for the money-spinning Grand Slam Track League, which is spearheaded by American sprint great Michael Johnson.
Ngetich, who recently became the second fastest woman in half marathon history, joined Ethiopian Tsigie Gebreselama to sign up as Racers ahead of the professional track league’s inaugural season in 2025.
The 10k world record holder joins the growing list of elite runners who have agreed to join the event that has $100,000 (Ksh13 million) for winners of each discipline per leg.

After missing Kenya's Olympic trials, Agnes Ngetich returned strong with the second-fastest half marathon time in history at Valencia, proving her dedication despite setbacks.
“Joining Grand Slam Track has ignited even more fire within me,” Ngetich said in a press release. “The competition is fierce, the atmosphere will be electric, and the possibilities are endless. I always dreamed of competing at the highest level, and joining Grand Slam Track is the next step in that dream.
“Especially as I can do this on track now and in a way that I can plan my season properly. I'm excited to race against the fastest women in the world and inspire the next generation to dream big.”
Ngetich sprung to prominence at the 2023 World Cross-Country Championship where she won a bronze medal before breaking the 10km road world record by an astonishing 28 seconds, having clocked 28:46 in Valencia in January.

Agnes Jebet Ngetich made a stunning half marathon debut in Valencia, clocking 1:03:04—the second-fastest time ever—while expressing pride in her milestone achievement and hopes of setting future records.
The 22-year-old, who finished sixth in 10,000m at the 2023 World Championships, missed the Paris 2024 Olympics after suffering an injury just before the Prefontaine Classic, which served as Kenya’s 10,000m Olympics trials.
She returned to Valencia on Sunday, October 27 and made more history in the Spanish city, clocking 1:03:04 to become the second fastest runner in the history of the half marathon.
