Abdi Nageeye won the New York City Marathon in style and Pulse Sports looks at the shoes that propelled him to marathon dominance, the shoes were also won by the late Kelvin Kiptum and Ruth Chepng'etich.
Abdi Nageeye was in a class of his own as he obliterated a strong field to claim top honours at the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3.
His win comes after a disappointing Paris Olympic Games where he intended to defend his title but failed to impress as he registered a ‘did not finish’ in the tight race. In Paris, Tamirat Tola claimed the win as Bashir Abdi came in second. Reigning Tokyo Marathon champion Benson Kipruto rounded up the podium.
Competing in the streets of New York, Nageeye had a great bounce back as Evans Chebet finished an impressive second. Albert Korir was third and defending champion Tamirat Tola finished fourth.

‘Learn from me’ – Lucy Kabuu advises female athletes against making relationship mistakes amid Ksh70m property dispute
Former Commonwealth champion Lucy Kabuu has told famale athletes to be wary of the men they fall in love with to avoid exploitation and cases of Gender-Based Violence.
There is no doubt that super shoes played a role in Abdi Nageeye’s performance as he was wearing the Nike Alphafly 3, the shoes the late Kelvin Kiptum wore to break the marathon world record at the Chicago Marathon.
According to multiple sources online, the Nike Alphafly 3 has a series of pros including the fact that it is very lightweight and has the best breathability. The shoe is also perfect for marathon running as was seen with the late Kiptum and Ruth Chepng’etich who also broke the marathon world record at this year’s Chicago Marathon.
The shoe also has repositioned Air Pods that offer a better ride than the Nike Alphafly 2 version. The shoe has the ZoomX foam that is used to deliver a massive energy return and it also aids in forward momentum, especially when legs begin to fatigue.
Apart from marathon running, the shoe is also perfect for running 5km and 10km road races and it aids in smooth transitions in races.
Some of the cons of the shoe are that the heel strikers are most likely to wear down on the outsole quickly and the arch still poses a challenge for some runners. The sock-like tongue might also not be suitable for everyone.
