The former world marathon record holder Wilson Kipsang was banned for four years from January 10, 2020, for whereabouts failures and tampering by providing false evidence and witness testimony. Kipsang was punished for four whereabouts failures between April 2018 and May 2019.

He had his sanction increased after it was ruled he had tampered with the investigation by providing “false evidence and witness testimony”.

However, he has now served his ban diligently and is ready to get back into competition. However, the provisional squad for the marathon team to the Olympic Games in Paris, France has already been named by Athletics Kenya.

2) Elijah Manangoi

Manangoi is also among the athletes who have served their bans faithfully and are ready to return to competition this year. Manangoi, a former world champion, was handed a two-year ban for anti-doping violations after missing three tests under whereabouts rules.

Manangoi missed tests on July 3, November 12, and December 22 in 2019, and his ban was backdated to start on December 22 which was the date of the third whereabouts failure.

He has served his ban and is slowly coming back into competition and he will obviously be keen to make the national team to the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

3) Asbel Kiprop

Three-time world champion Kiprop tested positive for EPO in an out-of-competition test in Kenya in November 2017 and his suspension was backdated to February 3, 2018, when he was provisionally suspended.

However, Kiprop had argued that his urine sample, which was taken out of competition, could have been tampered with but the AIU, said they were satisfied that there had been no interference and an IAAF Disciplinary Tribunal suspended him for four years effective February 2018.

He served his doping ban and has been making steady strides back into competition. He will definitely be hoping to make the cut to the Olympic team.

Otieno blamed a contaminated nutritional supplement for his positive test but promised to come back in 2023, bigger and better.

He has since shared clips of himself in the gym doing workouts and also in the stadium, training and he is surely one of the athletes to watch this season.
