The month will be highlighted by the Chicago Marathon, honoring late Kelvin Kiptum and the Amsterdam Marathon, alongside World Athletics Cross Country Tour events in Spain.

It has been another memorable season of track and field action, with the 2024 Paris Olympics topping the list.

Now, the focus returns to road racing and cross country, with a number of top tier events taking place this month.

The World Athletics Platinum Label has two road races in the spotlight in October as some of the world's best runners compete in the Chicago and Amsterdam marathons.

The Chicago Marathon will honor the late Kenyan marathoner Kelvin Kiptum with tributes, celebrating his record-breaking legacy during this weekend's race. Kiptum tragically passed away earlier this year in a car accident, and the event comes a year after his unforgettable record-setting performance in the Windy City.

Kiptum, who was only 23 at the time, stunned the world in 2023 when he shattered the men’s marathon world record, crossing the finish line in 2:00:35.

Meanwhile, Amsterdam is a beautiful city marathon with thousands for participants yearly. There are five events scheduled on the day of the race: the marathon, the Mizuno Half Marathon, the TCS 8 K run, the Skylanders Kids Run and the Mini Marathon.

Elsewhere, the World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold continues with the Cross Internacional Zornotza on October 20 and the Cross Internacional de Atapuerca on October 27, both in Spain.

The Zornotza event, part of the World Athletics Cross Country Tour Silver level series, takes place in the city of Amorebieta-Etxano, also known as Zornotza.

Kenya's Beatrice Chebet triumphed in last year's Cross Internacional de Atapuerca in the women's category by clocking 25:21 while Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo ruled in the men's cadre, even as a competitive field is expected to grace the occasion this year.
