Mark Otieno has confirmed he is back for the 2025 season and this time around, he is not messing around.
Ladies and gentlemen, Mark Otieno is back and ready to make up for everything he lost while plotting his return!
If you may be new here, the Kenyan sprinter was officially suspended for two years for doping by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) in 2021. He was due to compete in the semifinal of the men’s 100m at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games when his positive test for banned anabolic steroid methasterone was confirmed.
Otieno never lost hope in his career and continued training and keeping the dream alive. His banned ended in 2023 and he was eligible to compete from August of the same year.

Can Ferdinand Omanyala stay on top? 7 rivals who could dominate the 100m in 2025
Ferdinand Omanyala faces intense competition from seven elite sprinters as he aims to retain his dominance in the 100m.
Coming back from a ban was difficult for the 31-year-old who was not used to training and as it is always said, one can train all they want but without competing against other athletes, it’s all in vain since one cannot gauge where their body is.
Good news for the fans, after testing the waters for a year and half, competing in local competitions and making the national team in some events including the World Athletics Relays and the Africa Senior Athletics Championships. His main goal was to make the Olympic team but his time was not sufficient and you know what, Otieno never gave up.
Mark Otieno is starting the 2025 season with the much-needed optimism as he eyes the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan where he wants to join Ferdinand Omanyala in a quest for Kenyan glory.
Ferdinand Omanyala already has the time in the 100m and the continent’s fastest man is only awaiting the Kenyan trials to showcase his talent one more time. However, with Mark Otieno’s consistency, Omanyala should be ready for a tough battle.
Otieno has since posted a reel on his Instagram, showcasing how he has been working around the clock and with his partnership with Enda Sportswear, he is ready for the new season.
He captioned the video: “Starting the year off right! 2025, I’m ready.”
