Blake clinched Bronze at the 60m World Indoor Championship finals in Glasgow, finishing behind Christian Coleman and Noah Lyles and just ahead of Ferdinand Omanyala.

Jamaican sprint sensation Ackeem Blake has revealed he is using last season’s disappointments as fuel to do as well as he can this season after clinching bronze at the final of the 60m race at the ongoing Glasgow World Indoor Championships.

Blake finished behind the two favorites, Christian Coleman and Noah Lyles, who clinched gold and silver respectively, with a time of 6.46, 0.05 seconds behind the former, while Ferdinand Omanyala, who was tipped to medal at the event, finished fourth.

The budding athlete has revealed that to medal despite being

“I am the youngest in the field, winning this medal means alot to me,” Blake said after the race.

“It’s my first time indoors so it’s a privilege, so it is a pretty great feeling.”

En–route to the final, Blake had won his semifinal in 6.51 seconds, which marked the 22-year-old Jamaican's first appearance in a global final.

Blake demonstrated a quick start and maintained his pace to outpace Cameroon’s Emnanuel Esme, who had set a national record of 6.52 seconds to secure the other automatic qualifying spot from the heat.

Blake has looked back at failing to do well in 2023, which motivated him into doing well for the country.

“Well, last year, I did not get a chance, this year I got it so, it was about going out there and doing what I had to do.

“ I gained experience from last year and the year before, so I am just putting everything together and doing what I have to do.

“I am just focused on my own race and doing what I have to do.”

Blake broke a seven- year drought since a Jamaican man won a medal in the short sprint at any senior global championships since 2017 when Usain Bolt was third in the men’s 100m at the World Championships in London.

Blake, who was a semi-finalist in the 100m at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon in 2022, had won his first round race in 6.55 seconds and his semi-final race in 6.51 seconds.
