The World Athletics Championships climaxed Sunday night in Budapest, Hungary, with Femke Bol producing an astonishing final leg to snatch gold for the Netherlands in a thrilling women’s 4x400 metres relay.
Peruth Chemutai was Uganda’s last athlete in action and went on finish seventh in the 3000m steeplechase race.
But it was Victor Kiplangat who registered Uganda’s second medal at the games, crossing the finish line in two hours, eight minutes and 53 seconds.

Newly crowned World Athletics marathon champion Victor Kiplangat has received high praise from Joshua Cheptegei following his stunning victory in the 42 km distance on August 27 in Budapest.
The 23-year-old gallantly protected his lead to win Uganda’s second-ever world marathon title, exactly 10 years after compatriot Stephen Kiprotich won the title in Moscow in 2013.
With every victory and position up to eighth came a cash prize for the athletes at the games, and Uganda had five runners in the money brackets.

Joshua Cheptegei was the first Ugandan to win a medal at the games, winning the 10000m race in 27:51:42.

Known for his always-jolly face, Cheptegei was on Wednesday recorded dancing on a street in Budapest, Hungary, where the 2023 World Championships are taking center stage.
It was the third straight gold for Cheptegei, who had won the same race in Doha, Qatar and Oregon, USA.
Kiplangat then completed the medal count for Uganda on Sunday.
With the gold medal, each of the two athletes earned himself $70,000 (UGX. 258,683,250).
Marathoner Stephen Kissa came home in 2:10:22 to finish fifth.
And for that performance, he walked home with $11,000 (UGX. 40,650,225).
Two other Ugandans made it to the money bracket, Halima Nakaayi and Peruth Chemutai.
Chemutai finished seventh in the 3000m steeplechase to win herself $6000 (UGX. 22,172,850) in 9 minutes, 10 seconds and 26 microseconds.
Halima Nakaayi finished eighth in the 800m race, clocking 1:59:18 to win herself $5,000 (UGX. 18, 477,375).
