Teresa Cherotich has appreciated her coach, Paul Kemei, for her win at the second Athletics Kenya meet.

Youngster Teresa Cherotich credited her coach Paul Kemei for her dominant exploits at the second Athletics Kenya meet at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Cherotich stunned the crowds to clinch victory in the women’s 10,000m race ahead of Mercy Chemutai.

The 17-year-old clocked 33:57.50 to beat her compatriot from South Rift who clocked 33:59.50. Mercy Chepkorir from Lemotit camp completed the podium after clocking 34:29.50.

“The weather was a bit unfriendly today but I managed to conquer it. I appreciate my coach for encouraging and training me.

If not for him, I would not be here today. I also appreciate God for giving me the chance to be alive today,” she said.

She added that she would be keen to make the cut to next year’s World Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru where she hopes to make an impression.

The junior athlete added that she would also be happy to qualify for the World Cross-country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

“At the moment, I am vying for a ticket to the World Cross-country and the World Under-20 Championships too,” she said.

Meanwhile, Diana Chepkemoi reigned supreme in the 5000m. She has been in formidable shape and also dominated the cross-country legs in Machakos and Iten. She explained that the race was okay and she did not encounter any challenges.

“The race was good and I have enjoyed running here…my body is responding well to the training,” she said.
